Eastern U.S. Hub

Led by Cristy Page, MD, MPHErin Fraher, PhD, and Emily Hawes, PharmD, the UNC Department of Family Medicine provides overall leadership of thcgme.org and houses the Eastern Hub, which includes Alfred Gitu, MD,  Steve Crane, MDSteve Buie, MD, and Steve Hulkower, MD.

 

UNC Family Medicine brings experience creating and sustaining rural residency programs, including meeting all accreditation requirements and establishing financial sustainability as well as a commitment to collaborative endeavors that involve building coalitions among healthcare delivery sites, academic centers, and other stakeholders.

 

In close collaboration with the UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Rural Initiatives and Piedmont Health Services (PHS), UNC has significant experience with longitudinal integrated curricula, rural scholars programs, and other community-based and innovative pipeline programs to place medical students and residents in rural counties.

 

The Sheps Center for Health Services Research directed by Mark Holmes, PhD houses both the Program on Health Workforce Research and Policy and the Rural Health Research Program and provides expertise in data systems and tracking.
